Movie review of 'LAGAAN'

In this day at Department of English MKBU, we have a film screening of Lagaan. This movie based on nationalism but now we try to look and understand deeply the structure, metaphor and different way to interpret and connect with human aspects.
Lagaan movie shows the different points and aspects :
Indianness.
Post colonialism.
Patriarchy.
Religion.
Nationalism.
Cricket as a metaphor.
Subaltern.
Rural India.
Feminism.
Team work and leadership.
Goodness of Britishers.
Love triangle.
Language.
Dance style.
Plot :~
The film based on religion context. Ex: Lord Krishna's story. Bhuvan's character based on Krishna, Gauri character like Radha and Elizabeth's character shows Mira, Elizabeth fall in love with Bhuvan but he can't love her.
And also story based on independents and reduce the tex(Lagaan).
Rural India :~
This movie shows the village life and and rural people's problems to survive life. The farmers and other people who facing many problems like due to less rain(Lagaan). There are manipulate by the Britishers and king of Chapaner. The people are badly treated by Britishers. No one cares about the villages condition and problems.
Indianness :~
Indianess is the energy which gives to the people strength. In the movie we see many things happens with Indianness.
*Yoga : Yoga is the symbol of Indianness. Movie shows Bhuvan and other players doing yoga for fitness of their health.
*Temple Ball : When Bhuvan hits the ball that ball hit the temple bell. This significant shoemws the God to play the game and also this incident shows hope.
*Castism : The character Kachara who consider as lover cast and untouchability. The other players not want to play with him but Bhuvan try to confess them to play the game because Kachara was fantastic spinner (firki player). And also try to show and connection with religion conflict like Ramayana, the relationship between Rama and Shabri.
Religion :~
Religion point is main force who leads the plot forward.
*Food : British soldier tell to king to eat meat than people not pay double tex. But king denied to eat meat.
*Religion based on fear : Movie shows focused on temple. Whenever the villager feel hopeless and afraid by Britisher than they pray to God.
*Oneness of religion : Movie shows oneness of religion. In the village there are many religion people like Muslim, Shikh and Hindu. They all live happy with each other.
Teamwork and leadership :~
Leadership is the difficult task. The leader face many problems and difficulties. In the movie Bhuvan accept the challenge of cricket, but the other people not understand his ambition and condition. Than he try to prove him and play the game which unknown by villagers. After playing game than people understand his motive and people play with him.
Post colonial :~
In the film Britisher ruled over Chapaner. The king of Chapaner can't speak anything of Britishers. Normally king is the symbol of strength and power, but hear is under the Britishers.
Village people are focused to play cricket by Britisher. So they haven't other options. Britisher focused to play cricket because they have master in this game and they think that villager can't win this match.
The character of Elizabeth who is Britisher. She helps villagers to play this game it shows post colonialism.
Cricket as a metaphor :~
Cricket is the metaphor of post colonialism. This movie shows fear and freedom. Villages don't know how to play cricket. If they loose in the match they have to pay 3 time more tex(Lagaan). But it's also symbol of hope and freedom. If they win the match they should not pay tex to 3 year. So Bhuvan have think about villagers future that's why he accept this challenge of cricket match.
Patriarchy :~
Cricket game only for playing by male players. Female not get any importance in the game. Female only do this thing like make food and home cleaning.
In other side British people give the equal power and freedom, that Elizabeth helps villagers to learn cricket game.
The female characters Gauri and Elizabeth are totally different. Gauri shows patriarchy things always do what his father tell to her and other side Elizabeth do everything what she thinks.
Love triangle :~
In this movie does love triangles. We can show that 2 love triangle in this movie.
1. Bhuvan, Gauri and Elizabeth.
2. Bhuvan, Gauri and Lakha.
Elizabeth fall in love with Bhuvan but Bhuvan beloved wife Gauri. That's why Elizabeth can't express his love. When she looks both are happy with each other than she sacrifice har love.
Similar like Elizabeth, Lakha fall in love with Gauri but she loves Bhuvan.
Language :~
In the movie language is important thing.
English consider as high class language because it's only used by Britishers.
Villagers can't know English language that's why Elizabeth confess his love proposal but Bhuvan can't understand his feelings.
